Although it would have been nice to spend a little more time in Mykonos, I'm not sure our creditcards would allow it. We took a high speed ferry back to Athens. The cab scene at the port in Athens is pretty hectic and confusing. With about 30 drivers trying to get you in their car, it seems like something bad is about to happen....right as we were about to step into one cab, a police car pulled up behind what looked like the cab stand....apparently not because every driver literally sprinted to his car and peeled away, including our driver, who put our bag down and left...now what? After the cops left, the cabs came back and we just grabbed the first one.
We spent a good 2 hours at our hotel showering and cleaning clothes in the sink...pretty ghetto, but necessary. After breaking through the layers of salt, we headed to the Plaka area of Athens, which was right next to our hotel (which was also about 500m from the Acropolis)

Table we "squeezed" into for game
. We got our bearings a bit and had dinner outside in a major pedestrian restaurant area. Although definitely touristy, the area was still a lot of fun. After dinner, we found a square surrounded by about 15 different bars/cafes/restaurants, all of which had the Euro2008 Spain vs Germany final on big screens outside...although all tables were full, we politely sat down with another couple...and then 10 minutes later, they politely got up and left....perfect. The crowd was very into the game, but not nearly as much as if it had been Greece playing. After the game, Andy dragged Lauren decided to go to a midnight showing of Sex and the City in an awesome, outdoor open-air movie theater on top of a building....it was pretty surreal with the Acropolis lit up in the background and stars above. Athens just became Lauren's new favorite city.
