We departed Athens at a leisurely hour on Sunday morning heading to Santorini to begin our weeklong sailing trip.  We spent most of the day in Santorini trying to take care of logistics for some other parts of our trip, etc...Today in the downtown area of Santorini is also where Lauren began her "milkshake" phase...they are very good in Greece, and readily available.  The main town of Santorini is Fira, and is pretty touristy (tours, mopeds, scooters, ATVs, etc...)  We met up with our new crew and skipper at Dmitris Taverna down at the Marina around 5:00pm.  Our boat was a 50-foot sailboat with room for 8 people plus a skipper.  Our crew consisted of:

Steve and Melanie - late 20s, both from Canada, dating, and now living in London.  Steve is of Irish descent and sported Irish Football or Rugby gear the entire week.  He also claimed to have planters facietus so he was stuck in sneakers Bags arrived - sweet

.  Melanie was the caretaker of the group, always fixing up food, showers, BBQs, cleaning, etc...it was quite a treat to have her around.
Gary and Amy - late 20s, again, both from Canada, both work together at Deloitte, still live in Canada.  Gary was great with the camera, and given his Asian descent, there were a lot of camera jokes from Steve (seems like this joke has been going on for years).  Although Amy managed all of our food money and shopping with Melanie, she spent 96% of the time sailing drugged up on sleeping pills and curled up in the fetal position in her bedroom (this is not an exaggeration).
Gary, Amy, Steve and Melanie all went to school together at University of Western Ontario.
Christina, 49, a civil engineer from Lisbon.  She did not fit the traditional demographic of the trip, but was not afraid to voice her opinion about types of knots, the amount of time needed to rest before going swimming, or the "appropriate" amount of drinks to have in a year (her suggestion was 3....for the year!).  She was also very happy when we introduced her to peanut butter.
Julia, late 20s, from California.  She is a former marine and fresh out of George Washington University with a "shiny new bachelor's degree in accountancy" going to work at PWC.  She would try almost anything, although could only ride her rented motorcycle for 20 feet before she bailed and joined us on the ATVs (see below) Dimitirs Taverna soccer TV setup

Damon was our Skipper #1 from Australia...he had a great handle of the boat and all the islands, and showed us very cool places.  Unfortunately, he decided to quit 6 days into our trip so he left and we got a new skipper, Ludwig.
Ludwig was Skipper #2 from France, although he lived in LA for 10 years and currently lives in Mallorca, Spain.  He was a great guy, although when he took over our boat, he had never been on the boat before, had never been sailing in the islands before, and had actually never stepped foot on Greek soil before....interesting.

There was a second boat traveling a similar route as us, so we hung out with them a bit...quick review:

Damien -late 20s, Arkansas boy, liked to booze and party, very smart and fun guy.
Tina - late 20s, Finland Veterinarian, pretty conservative
Kate, Leslie and Laura - all 19 years old university students from Scotland.  Although they didn't have a lot of money to throw around they explained how they "manipulated" guys to get free stuff...they were actually pretty laid back.
Rich and Suzanne - retired couple from St. Louis, who loved to hike.
Andreus - skipper, late 30s from Germany, who rolled 40 cigarettes a day and smoked them all.  I thought the guy was a total jackass and I'm pretty sure he knew and though I was too...so it worked out fine.

Eva is the name our boat, although I refuse to refer to the boat as "her" or "she" because that drives me crazy for some reason; probably because I am not a sailor (this is Andy).  The boat was very nice, it had two double cabins in the stern and one in the bow (for 6 people total).  The two rooms in the middle of the boat had two bunk beds each, and in the main part of the boat was a decent sized kitchen/saloon area with a table for 6 people.  The bedrooms were very, very small and their were 3 shared bathrooms with very somewhat limited shower situations (see pics).  Overall, it was just what we hoped for and was perfect for the trip.  We ended our first night at the Taverna watching the Spain-Italy Euro2008 game outside on a flat screen TV brought from the owners house.
