To visit Florence without hiking up to Piazzele Michelangelo is not to visit Florence at all. The Church at the Piazzele's summit can be seen brightly lit from the city below each night. The view from atop, priceless. Florence's skyline and remarkable ancient structures are truly at their best. If there is a photograph to snap while in Firenze, this is the one.
Apart from the Piazzeles photogenic qualities, there lies a magnificent Church ( ) open to the public, we respectively entered through the heavy wooden doors. Greg with his Catholic past explained some of the marvelous paintings and stained glass depictions to me, gorgeous. We lit a candle to the left of the magnificent alter and said a silent prayer, what a powerful experience.
Just past the Church lies yet another Basilica (the one visibly lit up from the city,) it's façade in the style of the breathtaking Duomo. A staircase below lie the resting places of some very important Florentine families. There are burial plots here dating as far back as the 1800's and as recent as 2006. Everything from decorated tombs, to children's tombstones as young as 2, to family mausoleums to the rows upon rows of burial plots, this is resting place of hundreds of years of Tuscan individuals......As Greg commented....."What a place to spend eternity."
