So I left Auckland with a crazy Belgian girl named Griet and a 20 year old kiwi (another name for New Zealnder)..... and headed to Lake Taupo (just like Lake Tahoe) and the "mountain" aka active volcano!!
met up with Griet's friend - a doctor from Belgium who loves Qunicy, California and my kinda music!- He had a lovely home in the mtns and invited us to stay- along with his boss, Julie, and her dad, Daryl for the weekend!
unfortunaly the weather was horrible and so I didn't ski as planned- but instead went on 2 wonderful hikes and to the most amazing hot springs ever- sitting in the pools of hot bubbling earthy water- ofcourse heated from the 'liquid hot magma'- while dangling our feet into the freezing cold river- awesome- everyone with passes skied the first day there but Darly and I hiked together instead, had a great day considering he is a geologist and was teaching me all about the layers of volcanic rock and everything about the natural history of New Zealand!!
I was identifying trees and plants too- considering most are non native to NZ and a lot coem from California..... which leads me to mention the next town I traveled to: WELLINGTON!!! Griet invited me to stay at her place and it was so nice to be in sucha comfy bed again!!!
Wellington - a mini San Francisco! I mean a complete replica- all the way to the Victorian houses, the hills, the weather, the names of places, the decroative trim on the inside of the houses.....her place looked just like mine in SF! crazy resemblences- and we cooked dinner at a freinds house and it just felt like being at home.....certainly a potenial future living location!! It had a beautiful water front a artsy vibe all over!
I loved it!
