so we arrived off our bus onto a sandy street in La Pedrera with little to no plans.   lauren had heard great things about this town from an australian at the hostel in montevideo so we figured we should check it out.  with all our backpacks on we began wandering the town rather aimlessly trying to locate a hostel, or camping, or anything really.  we spoke to lots of different very friendly people who tried to point us in the direction of camping.  we eventually found a huge campground at dusk and were able to set our tents up with the help of our flashlights.  lauren and i made an important purchase in montevideo of a beautiful tent called The Safari.  probably the best tent wve ever seen.  actually its probably the smallest most fisher price tent in the world.  but it does the job.  after we got set up we headed back into town for some much needed dinner.

La Pedrera is BEAUTIFUL.  picture...sandy streets...little houses with tons of windows and balconies overlooking the ocean.  outdoor brick fireplaces and lots of hammocks.  the town only has one main street lined with coloured lights at night and little restaurants and shops with thatched roofs.  we had a delicious italian dinner and headed to bed.

the next morning we awoke to rain...but the safari stayed dry!!! very exciting.  we wandered around in our raingear for awhile...had some beers on the street....just chilled out pretty much...taking in the scene.  it cleared up but got really cold that night.  we drank at our campsite and then went into town to check out some carneval action.  apparently everyone had come to this town to celebrate!  it reminded us of a cottage town kind of....lots of families but then also tons of people our age there to party.  we ran into our new uruguayan friends who helped us the night before.  we wandered with them a bit drinking in the streets.  we saw a hilarious jam band, lauren befriended a stray dog we named trooper.  he was adorable.  we danced for a bit the one little club on the main drag and then headed home.

the next day we were again supposed to leave but extended our stay an extra night so that we could have some beach time.  the beach was absolutely beautiful....surfers were out, we lay in the sand, swam, read our books and didnt burn this time.  we had a early dinner out and then stayed at our campsite drinking, playing cards, listening to the last waltz on my ipod speakers, playing guitar and watching the stars.  this was supposed to be the big party night in town but we were having too much fun at our campsite to leave.  it was a pretty stellar night.  the next day we packed up camp and hopped on a bus heading up the coast to a new beach town called Valizas.......

La Pedrera was a pretty amazing town....we could have definitely stayed longer but it was time to move on to new adventures in a new beach town....
