Last night was a bit eventful
. Tolis, the owner of Hostel Aphrodite decided to get upset about me leaving, even though I'd given him plenty of notice and he seemed fine about it before. He forgot to leave my passport out for me to be able to get the night ferry to Naxos in time, and took it out on me - I wasn't even bothered as I knew I could get the ferry this morning but he seemed to feel so guilty about forgetting that the only way he could respond was to lash out in anger and blame ME for not reminding him. As if that wasn't bad enough, he then went on to say that if I intended staying in the hostel that night then I'd have to pay as it wasn't his fault that I didn't remind him, since I apparently only have one thing on my mind and he apparently has millions. Well I gave him a piece of my mind anyway, since he doesn't actually have a bloody clue about what is going on in my mind or what problems I might have to deal with in my life and told him that this wasn't a very fair assumption to make about anyone. So no way was I willing to pay him after talking at me me like that, and besides, there's cockroaches in the kitchen. So off I went to a nearby hostel, Tolis' rival as a matter of fact! It was really nice, legitimate even! It was cool experiencing life in a hostel as a guest for the first time.
It was like a Hostel Aphrodite reunion on the ferry this morning! Farbod and a lovely Canadian couple I'd met the previous morning, Oliver and Melissa, were on the same ferry heading to Santorini and Paros respectively, so we all sat together on the deck chatting as the sparkling vast sea and many remote uninhabited islands passed us by. To kill a bit of time I went down to the garage where all the luggage is stored to find my pack of Marvel Comic Heroes Top Trumps so we could have a game, but I got lost amongst the vehicles! It was like on of those hedge mazes except with cars, bikes and lorries instead of hedges
Anyway, now it's time to sunbathe on the beach and try out my new quick tanning carotene sunscreen - I've missed going to the beach! THIS is the Greece I know and love. So who knows if I'll even go to Rhodes for the Open Water Course now... we'll see how things go here, but I think I'm going to like it, but then I thought that about E-magine and Hostel Aphrodite! However even if I do like it, I guess my time is limited regardless given the 'situation' back home. Perhaps I'll do a bit of island hopping on my last few days, or... oh I don't know! I'll just follow wherever my heart wants to lead me to, I'm finding that this is usually the most reliable path to take...
Today I arrived in Naxos!! Best decision I've made in a long time - the island, the largest of the Cyclades, is beautiful. Think whitewash buildings with painted blue door and window frames, long, white, sandy beaches, clear blue sea, and fresh, unpolluted breathable air! The campsite itself that I'm going to be working on (Naxos Camping) is an excellent campsite. The owners philosophy is that everyone staying with them should have fun (it's a young clientelle that stay with them - bonus!), and so they put on pool parties in the campsite pool, there's even a jacuzzi! The toilets and showers are clean, and because I'm the first member of staff that's arrived to work for Summer, I got the large room with cooker and fridge! Compared to what I've been used to, this is luxurious! Although I wouldn't have minded camping as the tents look pretty big, plus camping is fun!
