Hola!
I'm now in Cusco, preparing myself for the Inca Trail. Its gonna be tough trekking at this altitude! Getting used to it though - after 2 days here I can now walk up the steep steps to the hostel without needing a break halfway up, which I did yesterday :oS makes me feel so unfit!
Got the nightbus from Arequipa to Cusco on friday night with Alex. Was sad to leave as it was a really nice place but had to move eventually! Got to cusco reallly early, 5.30am, yuk, and got to the hostel in a total daze, but its a nice place, very partyish!
Yesterday had an explore round Cusco with Alex and Jenna (cambridge girl at the hostel), did some shopping (coca chocolate and toffees, made from same stuff as cocaine but less illegal!) and generally wandered. Its a really pretty city. Went for dinner with Alex, 4 courses of mexican food - somehow not quite the same as in england!
Alex left this morning on his trek to Machu Pichu so wont see him again, which is a shame cos we got on really well. But may well meet up for a drink in london :o) spent the day with Jenna checking out some cultural stuff. Went to a really cool museum of Pre/Columbian Art - like Inca but much older! Some of it looks really modern but is actually 1500 years old.
Especially cool were some Inca staffs topped with animals - can imagine them being used in sacrifice ceremonies, and some really bright pots wih cool patterns. Again i have photos!
Todays dinner was the local specialty (had to try it!) - roasted guinea pig! Actually pretty tasty, kinda like chicken but meatier taste. Too many bones though and not enough meat. And it had the head on (with teeth) and all the feet with claws :o)
Just chilling now at hostel with some vodka :o)
