Just a quick one as I'm getting horrendously behind!
Hoi An was fab, I ended up with lots of clothes - all the stuff I mentioned before plus a dress, a top and some shoes :o) its all really nice nd good quality, just means my bag now weighs a ton!
From Hoi An we went to Hue, only 4 hours and it was a nice bus ride. Journey was fine, except at the beginning when some muslim clerics got on, about 8 of them. One of them asked the me if I would move and sit next to the woman behind, to which I replied that her husband was already sitting there, so they moved on, no problem. Then this american/canadian guy from further back stands up and pushes his way forward to practically shout at me "They're probably not allowed to sit next to women because of their religon so will you PLEASE move adn sit next to the person behind". Idiot. I wish when people evesdropped they would do it properly. And the arrogance that he assumed I had no appreciation of other religons! I smiled sweetly at him and told him her husband was sitting there, at which he just said "oh", looked rather sheepish and walked back to his seat. When we stopped one of the muslim guys actually said to me, no worries, no ones angry, so he must of heard this guy too, which is offensive in itself that this guy assumed they couldn't ask for themselves.
Anyways, got to Hue, had a wander and some lunch. On a 15 min walk was literally accompanied the whole way by people offering cyclos, motos, tours, chats. GRR! Leave me alone! I hate it when they cycle alongside talking and wont go away!
Met up with the guys again at 3 and had a lazy afternoon, its got really really hot out here again. Had an interesting dinner i n the evening, went to a vegetarian restaurant and had "deer". Ben whos veggie found it prety convincing, but I found it quite sickening after half a plate!
Second day in Hue we went to the De Militarized Zone (DMZ), the 10km wide strip that seperated south and north vietnam. Went to the Vin Moc tunnels - essentially an underground village where te Vietcong hid from the americans. It was really interesting, got to walk through all the tunnels and see family rooms, hospital, meeting rooms etc. Also went to a famous bridge over the dividing river, a was cemetry and a church thats been destroyed by bombing. Interesting stuff!
Then went to the centre of Hue to the citadel - home of the emperor until he abdicated in 1954, adn then bombed to bits.
Got to run! Will update soon xxx
