You want motorbike?
Entry 28 of 37 | show all | print this entry |
No I don't want a motorbike, not from you, or your friend, or the guy down the street who you just saw me say no to... These guys don't give up!
Actually, its not as bad here as some places, but what I do hate is when they follow you and drive alongside asking questions and trying to get you talking, and then trying to sell stuff. Normally I would just walk away but thats pretty hard when they're on a bike alongside. Grrr.
Its been a travelling day so not much to say... Got up early and said goodbye to Spirit (real name Linh) and An. They were heading back to Saigon today and then going to continue their honeymoon on the beach, it was too cold and wet in Dalat! Headed to the tour office for 7.15am adn chatted for a bit to Tom, the guy from the tour yesterday. Oh yes, and we went for dinner yesterday which was actually a good laugh! He's a chemistry teacher from new zealand and nearing retirement age, so in normal circumstances I dont suppose we would have ever talked, but he was a good laugh and we had some stuff in common. Thats one of the great thing about travelling, that it brings everyone together regardless of age, nationality etc... I had a couple of glasses of local wine over dinner - suprisingly good, but head was a bit dodgy this morning!
So got on the bus and it was totally packed - they seem to forget that travellers have big bags, so when they sell every seat theres not going to be room for 50 people and 50 bags. Duh. You'd have thought they would have sussed this out! Anyway, I got lucky and was sitting right at the front, but everyone else had to climb to get off the bus as the aisle was packed with bags. Fun fun! Was sitting next to a cool guy who lives in Singapore but goes to uni in Sheffield. Bizarely enough he's not only friends with a guy I met a couple of weeks ago (Darren, in Pai), but he also knows Skilly (oxford guy for those of you who dont know) and Skillys dad who teaches at his school, AND one of the guys he was travelling with is Sarah John's (another balliolite) brother, Matt! And Sarah is also working for Oliver Wyman which i didnt know (the financial side). So,small world huh?!
Other than that, bus journey was long, and very sticky, yuk. The buses have plastic seats, so you can imagine sitting for 3 hour stretches is pretty horrible! Got here about 2.30pm and had to find a hotel. The first place I tried with dorms had closed, the second had dorms but they were full, and the third used to have dorms but not any more. I think this place changes quicker than Lonely Planet can keep up :o( So I ended up on a motorbike being driven around with this guy looking for a place for me. Eventually found somewhere for $7 night, not ideal and its a bit out of the backpacker zone, but its very clean and the staff are sweet. Might try and find cheaper tomorrow. Or might move to wherever Jen adn the gang have ended up, as they are also here. I dont know where they are though and its hard to arrange meeting by email!
Gonna go and get some food as im starving. Then prob an early night :o) I have good tv channels here, just watched Annie on HBO (lol, i didnt know what it was until they started singing at the end, but it was quite funny). Not sure of the plan for tomorrow, hopefully find the gang and then plan from there!
Lots of love xxx
