I've just moved to DC, where I'm subletting a small apartment with my partner for a few months before I'm scheduled to go back to Morocco. The place itself is a fixer-upper, but the neighborhood is amazing. Eastern Market is lively and charming, a stone's throw from Capitol Hill, and full of local flair. Every weekend there's an outdoor market, with fresh vegetables and produce, funky arts and crafts, homemade soaps and lotions, and random stalls selling everything from furniture to prints to textiles to memorabilia about Obama.

Obama fever is running rampant these days. Everyone is excited that he'll be elected soon. T-shirts, posters, buttons, earrings, bumper stickers, bobblehead dolls...anything you can think of will be sold to you by excited people telling you all about our first African-American president. The excitement is so thick it's palpable, and everyone is walking around with big goofy grins because things are about to change. Hamdulilah. I can't wait until the new administration begins.
