Waiting for an early bus

When I arrived in Ulcinj, I was told by the woman working at the bus station that there was only one daily bus to Shkodra, Albania, the closest town over the border, and it was at 6am every day. Obviously I had already missed that bus, so I was spending the night in Ulcinj. At the bus station I met an Australian guy who had also just arrived in Ulcinj headed to Albania. We headed into town together to find a place to stay for the night, knocking on random doors with the sign "sobe" aka rooms for rent posted above them. Since it was out of season, some of them weren't renting rooms at the moment, but we finally found a place for 15 Euro a person.
The evening wasn't so exciting - we spent a bit of time exploring town. Like most towns in this region, there's an Old Town with lovely cobblestone streets and a pretty view of the sea. The sunset was really colorful, but was also the major attraction of the town. There are supposed to be some nice beaches in the summer, but, once again, it was the wrong season for that. It was an early to bed night to prepare for a 5am wakeup in order to catch the 6am bus.
We arrived at the bus station with about 15 min to spare. It ended up being a private bus as no one else wanted to go to Albania that day. The border was easy to cross, though on the Albanian side we did have to get out to pay our 10 Euro entrance fee and answer a couple of questions from the border guards. My favorite part of the border crossing was the quizzical response from the border guard when I said we were going to Tirana - "But why?"
