Paul, a British guy who we all thought was named James for almost a whole day before he finally corrected us, and I decided to wake up early to catch the scenic train from Sarajevo to Mostar.  This train ride had been hyped by a few people I'd met along the way and gets a large nod in the Lonely Planet because of its winding curves through the mountains.  They were all right about the beautiful scenery - lots of mountains with lakes and villages dispersed throughout them - but I had a hard time enjoying them because I was so tired that my eyes kept trying to shut themselves.  We arrived in Mostar at 9:30am, dropped our bags off at the luggage storage room, and set out to explore the town before the 12:45pm bus to Split, Croatia.

Mostar is a small town that was completely destroyed during the Yugoslav war.  It's main attraction is the Stari Most Bridge which was decimated in 1993, but rebuilt in 1997.  In the summer, locals cajole money from the tourists in exchange for jumping off the bridge, but at this time of year it's too cold and there aren't enough tourists.  The bridge was very picturesque and the Old Town area around the Bazaar was really cute.  It was really empty because of being the off-season, even better for us to have it almost completely to ourselves.

After some cheese and potato burek counting our pennies to not have to withdraw any more Bosnian money only to change it to Croatian money later that day, it was onto the bus heading to Split, Croatia.
