After what felt like a long night in the air with little sleep for me and a lot of snoring for the man across the aisle, I arrived in Frankfurt, Germany and immediately boarded a train for Würzburg to meet my friend Melanie. Melanie and I met about two years ago when we were both traveling around Australia, she for a year and me for a month. We both happened to be in Tasmania at the same time and were on the same tour of Cradle Mountain and the west coast. Since then we've kept in touch via email with the open invitation for both of us to visit the other. I'm taking her up on her offer.
Luckily not only were my flights both on time, but they actually both arrived early. My flight into Frankfurt was early enough that I ended up catching a train an hour earlier than I thought I'd be able to. Unfortunately that did mean that I had to wait for almost an hour at the Würzburg train station since Melanie and her boyfriend, Stefan, weren't coming to pick me up until the train I was supposed to be on arrived. But I would much rather sit at a train station and wait than do the same on an airplane.
Once I met up with them, we dropped my stuff off in the car and then walked up to a castle overlooking the town. It was a really neat building with really pretty views of the river and the town below. After a walk through the town, we went back to the car and drove an house back to Stefan's house in Seßlach (Sesslach) where I proceeded to sleep from 10pm to 11:30am. Gotta love the combination of a night without sleep and jet lag.
