Was feeling sorry for myself as I found out that my sister couldn't come out to visit me due to the hurricane. I went out to find somewhere to eat and happened upon a little place called cleopatra's needle on the upper west side of manhattan. It was a quaint little restaurant. It had great food and a live band which had an open mic night. I got talking to some of the artists who told me that (weather permitting) they had live music every night. Again, I'm showing my geeky side, but I love the old classic jazz / big band numbers...and that's exactly what this was. It cheered me up so much! I took some videos...they're not great but give you the gist!
One of the songs they sung had the lyrics "there's a change in the weather, there's a change in the sea, and from now on, there'll be a change in me". I dunno if it was the artsy atmos (or the bloody strong martini!) but these words felt like they were the mantra of my trip (o god, what a cheesy thing to say...I must have been sloshed)!

This place closed early so I popped into an Irish bar on my way home. I met some cool people and I tagged along with them to some other bars. Ended up doing an impromptu rap recital of "the fresh prince of bel air" with a central park ranger who was on duty, but at the bar! SURREAL!! It was a good night in the end, after a bit of a rubbish start.
