Just back from Ha Long Bay yesterday!!
It was amazing and definately the best trip so far!! Even better than Sapa which i though nothing would top!! As part of a $28 all in trip package we caught a 4hr bus to Ha Long city on Friday morning and on arrival boarded our boat. This was so cool - it looked all clapped out and typically asian but was like travelling in total style compared to out last few hotels in Hanoi!! As it was a two day trip we had little double rooms and the boat also had a sundeck where we spent most of the trip catching our first rays of the trip and enyoying the scenery!! Ha Long Bay is basically a couple of km of sea filled with over 3,000 mini islands (see pics!) i saw my first real wild eagle (in fact i saw about 6!) which was amazing and we when the boat stopped several times we got to swim in the weirdly warm sea (trying to aviod their nasty jellyfish), practice our diving off the top deck, go kayaking around the small crags and caves, and drink plenty of Tiger Beer (it's virtually their national drink over here) - i definately never thought i'd be a beer drinker that's for sure!
At one point we also stopped at this huge cave full of stalagtites/mites which was one the most amazing thing i've ever seen - i tried to take photo's but they don't really do them justice!! We decided to sleep under the stars that night on topdeck which was great as there's no mozzies at sea - i think the fresh air gave us the best nights sleep we've ever had until we were awoken by torrential rain on our face - we legged it to our rooms and spent the rest of the night there! Back in Hanoi now waiting to get our train to Hue tomorrow - i can't wait to escape the place!! I think we've all had enough of the sweltering city smog and freaking motorbikes!!
Anyway - gotta go find ourselves some air conditioning... keep you posted, Lau xxxxxx More thumbnails ...
