On the 28th we spent the morning in Wanaka, it is a lovely little town (they all are). We had a stroll around the few shops and I got a roxy holdall as I can no longer fit all my stuff in my backpack, so I need a bag to take onto the flight and it was reduced!!! Sucker for a bargain! We then treated ourselves to a portion of chips and ate them beside the lake it was a lovely day. We also came across an arts and crafts market, all locally made stuff, there were so many things we could of brought. We then drove to the west coast as we had booked to do a walk on Franz Josef Glacier on the 29th. We stopped at Lake Mathieson by Fox Glacier on the way, because due to its sheltered location you can get a good reflection of the mountains on the lake. It was really nice, however I couldn't enjoy it because it dawned on me as walking to the lake that I had left my trainers at the campsite we stayed at in Wanaka, because idiot that I am I put them under the van. Anyway it never turned into a full crisis, I rang the site and they had them so they were kind enough to send them to Alex's Grandma's friend in Wellington! PHEW! We stayed at DOC site just outside Franz Josef ready for the early start and the walk.
