So we donned our stylish crash helmets and decided on what bikes we wanted and took to the street. Both being a bit wobbly at the beginning having not cycled in ages but it didnt take long to take on the hills in the area. We headed straight down to the coast and the seal colony where the day before we saw plenty of seals and cubs. We thought 'hell yeah' we are going to be in for a good day and get some great photos.
We finally got to the colony having had a really nice and enjoyable relaxing cycle. We locked up our bikes and headed to the colony. One thing was missing - SEALS! It appeared that all the seals decided to go out for lunch that day and so we were in the colony with no seals to look at.
This didnt matter too much the waves were awesome and so we went for a ncie walk on the rocks and took some great scenery photos of the town. I refer you to the photos on the blog to see this.
And as we were leaving all was not lost! We saw some seals! One in particular was a bit of a poser but for your information never get too close to a seal. They get a bit protective and being to bark and if you get too close they soon reguratate fish over you! We didnt find this out but it happens! Trust me!
A nice cycle back to the hostel was in order and we then grabbed a bite at the nearby subway and this subway stood out from the rest when we got to sit outside and watch an amazing sunset over the mountains! Cant get that in Dartford or Gravesend can you!?!
And if that wasnt enough our hostel had a lovely sauna, spa and jacuzzi to relaxing in as the sun went down. Things were looking up and for a relaxing day, the small town of Kaikoura really knows how to do it! Bring on the west coast of the South Island
