Well where do we start with Byron.......
The Arts Factory!
Well it's not your ordinary hostel, certainly the one where we've had the most fun so far!! Its quite ... 'alternative' shall we say with lots of 'alternative' behaviour! (if you aren't catching our drift, just email and we'll explain!) For our parents: We stress that OUR behaviour wasn't 'alternative'!!
It's set in the woods, so lots more bats than in the city, potentially more snakes and spiders! We were in a dorm altho teepee tents were an option! The pool was just downstairs and heated! And there was a cafe open till all hours! Was a oerfect set up to not have to leave there if we didn't want too! (We did but i'll carry on with the hostel bit!)
Cockatoo Paul seemed to be head of 'entertainment' the first part of his name being quite pertinant! (We blame the 'alternativeness'!) Monday nights was the weekly Talent show, of course Steve and I showed our fabulous 'wastching talent' (we were very good!) Admittedly, it was pretty excellent, with the majority of people playing guitar and singing, one acts talent was drinking, so they each downed 18 shots of whiskey in 20 seconds, stressing EACH! Well its just stupidity but interesting to watch! We were glad we weren't sharing the dorm with them!
Then the finale were an englishman and a frenchman guitars, singing a Disney Medley!! Blooming Marvellous!
Tuesdays were Trivia night and although we didn't win the quiz (first prize lots of $$$) they randomly gave out prizes throughout the night and we won a free trip to Fraser Island on a 4x4 safari (self drive with a group of people!) Can't wait for that, doing that early Jan! So the night was a success!
Didn't really par take in any other Hostel activities!!
The Town
Was relativley small, just the strip with shops and restaurants, and the arguably the best fish and chips on Oz (well of course we had to try!) They were pretty good! (we won't make it a habit!)
The beach was absolutely beautiful and not far from the famous Lighthouse which is the most easterly point in Australia! So we trekked up there in the day and walked back along the beach, but better yet we took a trip there one morning for the sunrise, (we apologise for the millions of photos, but we had to make sure we got the best pics, as the next time we'll be up at 4am on this trip is when we haven't gone to bed yet!!!:p)
Overall Byron was a beautiful place and its a must for anyone on there troubles, as is the Arts Factory!
(There is a place just north of Byron called Nimbin (look it up!) we didn't visit as we were told its pretty much a trip for all the alternative people to stock up there alternativeness!)
