.......NEIGHBOURS!!!
Hehe! Today could possibly be the cheesiest day of our lives and i bet you're all jealous!! :)
It was a good laugh, we got picked up by the official Neighbours bus, from the official Neighbours shop in the official Neighbours country!! Then whisked away to the studios for the 'Star Meet' and of course to keep us occupied for this short trip they played old episodes. (We saw when lassiters was burnt down, when Karl was marrying Izzy and Stu lost his eyesight! Also THE very first episode! we didn't realise we missed Jim Robinson so much!)
WARNING: If you do not want to know any details or secrets of Neighbours, and you want to keep it all real in your head, DON'T read on!
We arrived at the Studios where they have all the inside settings like the kitchens, living rooms, pubs etc. (we weren't allowed in this building) But on the outside all the exteriors like lassiters lake, grease monkeys, the antiques shop when Marlene Crouch came back with Ted from Tasmania (a Harold with amnesia!) oh and the one and only Coffee shop!
As we drove round the corner we were shown the, quite literally patch of grass, where the recent rave building fell down and got every one trapped, it was filmed just on a corner bit of grass in the grounds, not so glamourous!!
As the bus stopped a woman came on, we were so busy looking at the surroundings we didn't clock that it was Janelle!! (Ashlee had hoped for Stu or Drew and Steve had hoped for Sarah or Pepper!)
We all walked round and got photos of Grease Monkeys, and Carpenters Mechanics and had a postcard signed by Nell (Janelle), she was lovely not nearly as annoying as her character!
We had to be escorted round to Lassiters Lake by a security guard, and got some really good photos of the band stand and the famous lake, which is soooo much smaller in real life, more like a pond!
As we were driving out of the grounds, the glass doors which make up the Police Station were pointed out, they are also the same doors that make up the exterior to the hospital and the airport!! As we were driving out of the electric gate, again it was pointed out that this is where they filmed Sky being released from prison!!
We did drive past the building that portrayed Erinsborough High but couldn't get a good shot, to be honest, you probably wouldn't recognise it as the school!
Next came the finale.....Ramsay Street!!!
As alot of you will know, this is an actual residential street called Pin Oak Court.
They now have a security guard stationed there 24/7 (provided by the studios) as it's so widely recognised as the famous street. So now not just anyone can drive up there. To be fair to the residents they do put up with alot that you wouldn't realise. The Neighbours tour goes there twice a day 7 days a week. Random people were just coming into the road shouting for Harold etc. but then they do get a hell of a lot of subsidary money!
Anyhoo...we found out the reasons the street was chosen(not overly exciting but interesting none the less!)
1) It's a dead end, so only have to close off one side and no unexpected interuptions
2)Behind the 'House of Trouser' or what used to be, is a massive car park, so they could run all the leads to the generators and park the star and crew busses close by.
3) Relatively close to the studios.
4) The fact that all the houses looked different in appearance added character.
Silly facts:
-The house where Steph and Libby are living now, was put up for sale a little while back, some people thought it would sell really quickly, we weren't surprised to hear that it didn't. An English guy bought it and rents it out now.
-The people living in the Kennedy's house have been there since the beginning. When they needed a new front door, the neighbours team wrote in Susan looking for an antique door to keep the consistency for the change.
-The only back garden used in the street is 'Harold's', thats where they film the pool scenes etc.
A little snippet for coming shows (well at least we think it is, we haven;t watched it in a while!)
Bridget is pregnant! (We were shocked as last time i watched it she was only something like 12!! oh is that horrible Duncan the dad? If this is happening now, just fill me in on that little bit please?)
Ok so thats our tour of Neighbours, it was a really good laugh, and now we can annoy you all when it's on saying how we've been there!!
