Where I stayed
Cody to Yellowstone Park
Good night in Cody, nice hotel, comfy bed. Borrowed a free movie from their library. Didn't make it to the gym…. Up early and had breakfast then off. Looked like a short journey but it was windy roads and slow going in the park. We decided to take the long way round to catch the sights.
Just outside of town was the Buffalo Bill dam, actually that was quite nice – also free. Then another 75 easy miles to the park. Yellowstone is $25 to enter but you get a 7 day pass so that’s good. Also for the Tetons which is in the south of Yellowstone.
Decided to go slow through the park which is actually pretty spectacular
After the lake we headed through the hills and followed the rivers into the park stopping off to take pix of a few buffalo and elk (or maybe deer) along the way. Vast tracts of open land, very calming. We decided we need to understand how hibernation works, I mean if you stay asleep all winter do you wake up in a pile of poo? Need to research. Also, yesterday we had a discussion on carbon dating and we need to see how that works, I explained about half life and radiation but fell short of a proper understanding of carbon dating. After all, how do we really know the petrified forest is 120 million years old etc etc. we’ll look it up on google tomorrow as no internet today.
Anyway, we decided on the longer way round to get some idea of the geysers on the way. Not the cockney ones, the ones in the ground. The first one we went to was a mud volcano. You really do need smellovision for this one, it reeked. Sulphur and whatever, it was gross. Interesting though. We moved on to see loads more, geysers, spouting mud and water ponds
We toured round and on the way took in more buffalo, some crossing the road. Everyone else seems to have mega cameras with massive lenses so our pix are a bit sub standard.
We ended up at Old Faithful. A geyser which erupts every 70 minutes or so. Took a fantastic video, 18 minutes of nothing then 1 minute of eruption. Pretty spectacular though. Had a nice dinner, but Tina drank too much wine and was silly all the way back. (Mark as well ha ha). We went looking for an ice cream but everything shuts at 6pm. No TV or internet up here.
Back to the room, might watch a movie on the PC. There’s no fridge in this one, or breakfast, so we have some all-bran and milk for the morning, yummy J
Off to Jackson tomorrow in the Tetons, staying 2 nights there so a bit less travelling. Oh, and I’m 50 tomorrow. Yikes…..
Can’t keep our eyes open, not sure if it’s the fresh air or the wine lol but we are happy and off to bed.
