ĦadiV

I am having some crazy luck here lately...

First I lost my iphone/ had it stolen, then I found out my camera had a virus and was randomly deleting pictures, then I left my charger for my new phone in Cusco, then mistakenly took this school-bus-looking bus to Cusco-- only to find out it was almost actually a school bus--and stopped in every town collecting and dropping off an assortment of children in colored uniforms!

then had to cancel my upload of pics to a computer when it ws at 1799 of 1800 because it took too long and I had to get back to Urubamba to make dinner for the volunteers, THEN got in the more expensive taxi to Urubamba only to be squished in the back seat by two men who had their legs spread out like flying eagles---Oh, and lost my keys to the house and the family wanted to buy a new lock!

haha its all pretty funny looking back (but then again isnt it always like that?)

but heres the good news-- i think maybe, just maybe. some luck is finally being departed on me.  Here i am in Machu Pichu Pueblo aka Aguas Calientes-- read: area of departure for Machu Pichu! My hourneyt already has been pretty amusing and I havent even gone to Machu Picchu yet!  The whole thing has been amazingly last minute and unplanned.  Yes yes i hear you now, hasnt my whole trip been like this? But in all honesty this time i tried, i really TRIED to be organized.. but asi es la vida no?

My host sister said shed hook me up through her tour organization and we decided on a date-or so i thought-- then a week later i asked how it was going and she was like, oh i thought YOU were gonna call my friend.. lol nevermind that I didn't have a number.. ha anyways so on Friday picked up my tickets and someone how I have officially arrived.  Apparently one has to get on the train from a place called Pisacuchoo (spelling anyone? ha) to go to Machu Picchu.  My ticket was from Cusco but I was in Urubamba, an hour away and closer to Machu Picchu, so unlike the rest of the gringoosss I got on a local bus and rode my way to Piosaqcucho.

It was amusing sitting in a rickety old bus, like nothing we have in the states, being the only gringo, and watching nice air conditioned tour buses pass us. the view was mostly gray hair and those tacky tan colored sombrerero hat things that say something like machu pichu or something of the like with a little cartoon. ..

At one point I asked the driver how old he was and he told me 21, and I was and again I couldn't help but think how different lives are down here.  Apparently he was thinking of this as an advantage because once it was announced I was from "Estados Unidos", he asked "And how do I go there?".  The lady bouncing into me, teeth and hands full of a tamale mumbled through her teeth that he would have to marry me.... Greatttt  We all laughed and I was like oh ha good one,..but once we arrived at the station there he was asking me for my correo electronico or email.. THE ultimate pickup line here in South America I am TELLING YOU!  I was late for my train adn all I wantred to do was run for it but he quickly ran off to get some papel to write my address down.

Traveling alone in south America (okay and as a woman) is most definitely an experience.

But on any note I'm off to Machu Pichu ruins tomorrow! Finally! After 2 months of them being closed!  Its certainly strange being here--after living in Cusco during the floods and hearing all about the Pisac bridge collapsing (which I crossed--er its replacement- yesterday) and hearing  news that the train to MP was impassable..and then seeing it today.. was almost comical to describe it as impassable.. I mean I thought it would be like covered in mud or something but I looked over and the train tracks were  just hanging over the river with no support... like a piece of dangling spaghetti--quite an understatement indeed to say that it was impassable if you ask me...

But yes off I go tomorrow-- 4:30 to climb Waynapichu!  Will upload pics and update blog more later but its been hard because where im living now, in urubamba, the internet is soooooooo slowwwwww and the computers as well.. but im working on it.. sit tight..

miss you all, con carino
