Where I stayed
A fellow Sarasotan!
Basically I decided to stay an extra week in Cusco at language school because I had changed my mind on where to go next, and I hadnt decided what was going to replace that. I also wanted to be with people I knew for my 19th birthday. : ) So last Thursday I celebrated my birthday in Cusco with my host family, and friends from school, and it was really great : ) In the morning my host family went to get me a chocolate cake for breakfast, and my abuelita made me hot chocolate (pretty sure its hard to know me without knowing about my obsession with chocolate!) It was so thoughtful of them to do that.
I went to school late (Ive adopted Peruvian time) ; ) and my good friend from Brasil gave me a stuffed llama as a present! It was so cute! Then I went home for lunch, and friends from school all decided to meet at 6:30 for dinner. There was quite a big group of us.. like 30 or so, and we went to a place called the Witchs Garden. I had this AMAZING spinach and cheese filled chicken with these really yummy potatoes, and a pina colada : ) Afterwards I went out to a place called Bull Frogs with Jose, a guy I was seeing in Cusco, and we relaxed there for a while. For the next few days I went out to the discotecas and hung out with my friends for my last few nights.
Oh and there was this crazy Carnival thing on the weekend. All the kids (our age included) fill water balloons and water guns and run down the street spraying each other, throwing balloons as hard as possible, and expertly spraying silly string and soap all over each other. Walking the sidewalks was so crazy because all these water balloons get thrown from 2nd and 3rd stories! Even my abuelita got into it! Jose and his friends who are like in their 20s, were acting like kids! completely letting loose..it was definitively refreshing
Anyways so on Friday I decided to go to San Bartolo because my mom works with a woman in Sarasota who said she had a daughter outside of Lima in a Surfer Town, and she suggested I go, SOOO off I went on a plane to Lima! I needed a change of scenery and a place where I could research to decide what organization I want to volunteer with next, and where, and its been so perfect! Im even learning how to SURF! Its so crazy cause everyone is on summer break, so its like just living summer in the middle of our winter! And a nice break from the coldness and altitude of Cusco! San Bartolo is actually an hour from Lima on the coast, and there are tons of sufers here! San dunes are EVERYWHERE! its so different from the beaches we know! And people here have green, light eyes... its just like another world here!
Anyways, will fill you in on what I decide to do next here in Peru! Meanwhile Ill be on a surf board!
