(1)  DECEMBER 9, 1999  (1st Entry)
This was a very special short trip. It was
one of the very most memorable trips.
Since it was Christmas I wanted to go
see a lot of Christmas lights. So, I found
that Birmingham Zoo had special lights
up during Christmas. It is called the
ZooLight Safari. We knew there was a
Holiday Inn in the Area close to the Zoo
and the big Mall. We decided to wait
and make reservations when we got
there since we did not know what it would
be like.  So, when we got there and upon
finding our room to our surprise we found
it had a small man-made body of water
and a walking trail around it. This is why it
is called the Holiday Inn on the Lake. This
was an added bonus for this trip. Hubby
picked out a restaurant. He did good.
Already before we left home we decided
we would dress up and not do the blue
jean attire. It was a good decision. This
restaurant was very nice and the people
inside were dressed up. We were waited
on, too! The food was very good, also.
After we finished eating we went back to
the room and what we found was the lights
around the little lake were on and the lights
were reflecting off the water. Very pretty
and romantic! When we got to the Zoo,
the light were just coming on. This set the
atmosphere. It was not opening time yet so
we just sat there talking and laughing.
When we went inside we saw the familiar
Flamingos. As we walked we notice there
was not any animals to be seen. They were
tucked in already for the night. We did hear
and see peacocks. They were roaming
around. After the sun had gone down it
started getting colder. The air began to
feel crisp. Both of us notice a haze in
the air. It seemed we were walking in a
winter wonderland. It was absolutely
beautiful. The decorated lights were very
pretty. It almost seemed we were walking
under a canopy of lights (we were not,
though) It absolutely seemed magical! It
almost seemed orchestrated for us...of
course it was! Thank You Father! Anyway,
there were concessions. The gift shop was
open, too.  We, also, watched an animal
show. It was good and funny. We bought
hot dogs with the works...boy the onions
were good. Also, had some good hot
coffee.  Later on, we got us a large cup of
hot chocolate which hit the spot. We had
a wondrous time. We had enough time
when we got ack to the motel room for
several hands of card. We played till we
tied. This was unusual for Hubby and of
course an extra bonus for me! Our pictures
of our time at the Zoo just do not do the
ZooLight Safari justice. It really was very
pretty and magical like as in a child's eye.
Thank You Father for this special trip at
The Zoo during this time of celebrating the
birth of Your Son, Jesus.
