So I'm a bit late in writing this but whatever.

This past summer I had the great fortune to have my parents visit.  (Which of course meant they paid for a ton of stuff)  I had selected several great locations to visit and tours to take, but in the end we opted for a tour agency that settled all the arrangements for us.  The tour was a heck of a lot more than I would have been able to plan, and according to them we'd be taken care of from airport, to hotel, to destination and back again.  No fishing boat and random bus hopping like in Vietnam.....

At first I was pretty wary of this idea, but in the end, looking back, it turned out to be the best possible decision that we could have made.  Don't get me wrong, there were certainly plenty of moments where my hostel trotting, backpack toting sensibilities made me cringe at the activities we participated in, or the absurdity of our guides little flag waving around, or even the out and out feeling of exploitation during some visits to particularly under privileged villages.  Despite this, the trip was one of those that one carries the rest of one's life, constantly reminiscing "Remember back on the city wall in Xi'an...." or comparing "This is no where near as cool as when we...."

This was a milestone trip for me; I've been abroad before and not always delivered for the folks.  It was such a great feeling to get in outta the rain and knock on their hotel door in Beijing.  I'd been pretty lost the first time I came to China, and after a long year I was more than ready to show off my knowledge of such mysterious things as subways and saying "No, thank you".

This trip took us to more places than I can remember, but I'll never forget the time that I got back.
