The North Shire's breakfast is very good. Cereals, breads, juices, muffins and all for the right price (included). Rested, fed and happy we went to explore Manchester, the day wasn't as warm as yesterday, but it would get better. Manchester, VT is known (so we found out, or rather my wife "forgot" to tell me) for its designer outlets. Unfortunately, all the outlets are "mall priced", however we had fun walking around and enjoying the nice day.
There are many beautiful houses in town, almost southern. We took pictures of a few of them since we were in the process of looking for a house ourselves, and wanted some ideas for porches, gardens, and colors.
After lunch we had enough of the outlets (especially when you can't afford to buy anything), and decided to explore Vermont some more. We drove on Historic Rt. 7A at the suggestion of the innkeeper, and found some charming places, nice stores and overall Vermont charm. We drove up Stratton Mountain, had to pay several dollars per adult and the road is very windy and steep, but with a lot of places to stop. We stopped in the middle of the mountain for lunch, the stop is very well stocked with temporary bathrooms, picnic tables, and even bar-b-q pits.
The drive up was very steep, and the view at the top was excellent, we spent about one half hour up there (there isn't much to do except go down) and started our way. If we thought the way up was steep, the way down was even worst, going through winding road, smelling the breaks burn, and hoping that now one would come around the sharp bends too fast on the way up.
We went back to the North Shire Motel and decided to take advantage of the pool (even though it wasn't optimal weather). This would be our daughter's first experience swimming, and she proved to be a natural, especially once she got warmed up.
Once we got back to Manchester, we went to eat at Mulligan's, and Irish bar that servers American food such as hamburgers. Yes, they did have a high chair.
