Our trip is coming closer and we simply must close on the sale of the house before we leave otherwise we'll have a stressful trip. We are also paying rent by the day on the new house and mortgage on the condo, which is fine for a week or so but not for a month.
We have moved in over labor day weekend (Sept. 1-3) over three stressful days, several truck loads and SUV loads finishing at midnight on Sept. 3rd only to find out the next day we are not selling.
But we are now completely moved. We need to start unpacking ... so we can pack!
Our buyer is getting part of the down payment from ... you guessed it ... a government agency, which will only start processing once they have the COO.
G-d forbids they'll be efficient and do the paperwork beforehand, just waiting to get approved. Our tax money at work.
So now, after careful planning and hard work which intended to give us minimum two weeks to catch our breath at the new house, we are now simply hoping to close both transactions (selling and buying) 24 hours before we leave.
