Everyone in a while, several times a year, we go to the artisan village of Sugar Loaf, NY (Orange County) to walk around, find some cool stuff for the house, or simply not to sit home on a nice day.
It's worth going to Sugar Loaf just for the scenic route, not what you think of when you hear the words "New York".  The village is located in the Catskills Mountains, among rolling hills, meadows, pastures, villas and farmlands.
This time, instead of just driving to Sugar Loaf, we figured we'll stop for lunch at the Warwick Valley Winery, a few miles out of town.  Here is a warning, TomTom's GPS has no clue where or what Sugar Loaf is and we spent some time driving around the Warwick area - not that it was bad, the area is beautiful and the homes are gorgeous.  When we finally got to the winery all they were serving was pizza so we just walked around a bit, stretched our bones, bought some stuff and left to Sugar Loaf (about 10 miles away).
Once we got into town we stopped to eat the Barnsider restaurant for about $20 per person (appetizer, entrée and tip).  We walked around the village, going back to all our favorite stores, stocking up on soap from Rosner soap and getting our coffee at Krafty-Babes Café (so don't have dessert at the Barnsider).
Overall it's a great town for a day trip, wonderful galleries and crafts.
