Well...Coroico is pretty much the nicest place ever. Yes, we did bike ride down the most dangerous road to get here, but it was a blast! Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking is recommended by me to anybody considering the World's Most Dangerous Road. The guides were awesome, nothing bad happened, and all in all everyone just enjoyed the 5 hour ride.
After the ride, we all got free beer and a t-shirt and then bused from Yalosa into Coroico (which was about 20 mins away). The tour company has something arranged with Hotel Esmeralda so that we could all have showers, a buffet lunch, and swim in the pool. The hotel was so beautiful that Aaron, Darren, Tristan, and I all decided to stay there. We unpacked, gorged on a lovely meal and enjoyed the beautiful rolling green mountains.
Mine and Tristan's room is beautiful. We have our own bathroom, as well as a balcony with a hammock. We have pretty much spent the last two days totally relaxing: swimming in the pool, walking into town, sleeping and enjoying the sunshine and scenery. Tomorrow we are taking a 15 hour bus ride (which we all expect to be horrid as buses do not have bathrooms in Bolivia) to Rurrenebaque, where we will all look for jungle and pampas tours. We are sad to leave as this place is like a 5 star resort for the price of a sleazy motel. It is beautiful and one could easily spend 2 weeks here doing absolutely nothing, and having nothing to complain about.
But, we have to get a move on. It will be exciting to see the Amazon. I never thought that I would get a chance to see it other than in National Geographic Magazines. I can't wait to see the fauna there, and I am looking forward to the hundreds of biting malaria filled mosquitoes (oh wait....no i'm not, they will simply replace the hundreds of sandflies that are currently gnawing on me). Hopefully the next post will include tales of anacondas and capybaras. More thumbnails ...
