Hi All,
Easily found the hotel as Anchorage is not very large and pretty spread out, at the airport they told me that Minnesota Street going from North to South is the main one and as soon as you found it you can find your way around the city.
The hotel is small and some of the downstairs rooms and the cafe are close as they owners have the property on sale. Everything seems fine it is pretty busy with quite a few backpackers and the rooms are clean but small.
I spend the rest of the afternoon and evening touring the city, couple of hours to see what is there. It is divided in a South and a North part with nothing in between so walkwise its a pretty good hike to go from 1 part to the other. The city itself os very grey and seem dull like it lost its charm long ago and like any other city in the US is falling apart. The people are very friendly and when you see them and talk to them you get the leftover gold digger idea. Its probably not the best place in the world to stay and live but theres lots of differentiation, one car falling apart then next to it the latest BMW or Mercedes. It seems there are lots of poor and homeless and on the other side lots of people making good money.
Tuesday I will spend more time downtown and do the touristy thing, today I am going to Seward.
Like the people here say: The only good thing about Anchorage is that its only 30 km away from the rest of Alaska. I thought that was funny.
Bye for now.
There is no place quite like Qupqugiaq Inn

Much more than just an affordable hotel -- our guests enjoy a truly special experience with interiors that boast:
Organic, unusual architecture
Flowing, assymetric curves
Handmade tiles and steamed oak
Handcrafted furniture
International themes in each room
