Feb 18&19, Buenos Aires
MILES: flying 8517, bus 22, taxi 43, walking 35, ship 4032, Zodiac boat 14 total: 11,655 miles
Buenos Aires was originally called "Ciudad de la Santisimo Trinidad y Puerto de Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires" (City of the Holy Trinity and Port of Saint Mary of the fair winds).... I can see why they shorted it a bit. Thank you for whoever did that. There are 16 million people here. The majority of the population is of Spanish or Italian descent. The indigenous population is not represented well, they were pretty well wiped out or driven away a few hundred years ago as this land was 'settled'. Lots of sad stories there, I´m told.
Two days here, I walked and walked and walked. It is a very beautiful city, and I enjoy the sights. On one evening I went to a Tango show, which is extremely popular here. There must be dozens of these shows in town. The one I went to was in a small theatre, maybe held 70 people, so everything was close. Tango is a style of music and song as well as dance. So more than half of the show was songs, which were very well done. And the tango dancing was great as well. Mostly a spanish speaking audience, and of course the show was in spanish, but the tango is a very expressive dance in any language.
This my last time in this city, but I hope to return some day...
