For the first time in 39 years, I'm spending Christmas without Nancy.

For the first time in my life, I'm spending Christmas without family of any kind.

But with the subtropical surroundings and warm temperatures, it's not really much like Christmases past anyway, more like an illusion of the holiday.

The day started very quietly and ended loudly -- a rock and roll Christmas party at Guitarman club with friends.

Before going off to the club, we had a barbeque at the guesthouse, with fabulous marinated pork and chicken, along with rice, laap (meat salad), greens, grilled squid, fruit and other delicacies.

All in all, not a bad way to spend Christmas.
