Well it was a long way to get all the way down to Barcelona, but it ended up being a really nice 4 days we spent there. We saw a NZ camper van so parked up next to them in the camp site, and by the end of the first arvo an Aussie Talbot had pulled up behind us. That night we ended up having a few drinks with Joel and Mel and Tanya and Brendon and their two little girls. The Night was fun and we had the water pipe out and the music going until a security guard told us to be quiet at about 2am.
The city of Barcelona is really nice and has a good buzz. The main street La Rambla, is chocked full of people going about their day, with the most elaborate street performers I have ever seen. The market is also worth a mention, again the buzz here is great and you can see people buying all kinds of foods you would never think of eating, like pig's ears and any kind of innards imaginable. But the fruit and veg looked fresh and colorful and the sea food was so fresh it was still moving!
The other thing you have to see when you come to Barcelona is some Gaudi architecture. The biggest and best is of course the cathedral, a huge building that was started around 1880 and still isn't finished. It is the most amazing church I have seen, from the fact that it is so different; every wall is covered in different carvings of the usual things like angels, and also snakes and lizards and other strange kinds of animals. The strangest thing I found was how the walls have been made to look like they are melting, it is a very cool look, you will just have to go and see it for yourself! To tell you the truth we spent most of our time in a bar called the Travelers bar. It had free internet and cold beer, so need I say more.
At the camp site we spent a lot of time with Brendon and Tanya and their kids, Chelsea and Tia. It was nice just playing cards with someone else and having a BBQ. We all went for a swim one day, a bit cold, but our last swim in Europe. All in all it was worth the trip down to Spain, it was a nice way to end our European adventure. Before we left Spain we stopped at a little sea side village for a sea food meal. It was really cheap and really tasty, we sat next to the beach in the sun and ate gorgeous food and drank fabulous wine, one of the best meals of the trip I think.
And then it was home ward bound. In 4 days we went from Barcelona to Calais via Carcassonne, the Bordeaux wine region and Mont Saint Michaels. All places were lovely, and we bought a little bit of wine from Bordeaux. It was very exciting getting to Calais, waiting for the ferry, I think we were both ready to go back to London. So it was just our luck that the ferries were all on strike the day we were meant to sail out! In the end it only meant we sailed out 2 hrs late.
We had two days to kill until we got back to London, so we wanted to find a nice little camp site where we could give Clive a make over and start advertising to sell him. The first night we really couldn't find any where nice to stay, we ended up in what must have been the chav's favorite holiday spot, it was only 6 quid a night, but really it wasn't quiet the quaint camp site with a nice pub near by. We ended up finding a nicer little farm camp site the next night and we cleaned Clive up. I also forgot to mention that our radio had decided to break just before we left Barcelona, but a quick trip to Halfords showed it was very minor and it was fixed very quickly and cheaply.
So now we are back, just over 6mths in Europe over. Certainly not something I am going to forget anytime soon. We are currently staying at Jo and Delaines place for a week before we harass Kate and Tones for a while. The adventure isn't quiet over though and after a mth here catching up with all the great people we have met over the 15mths we spent in London we are off to Egypt, Sth America and Sth East Asia before finally reaching home. Hope you have all enjoyed keeping up with us. xx
