22/9- 23/9
Austria is one of those countries that just have endless beauty - green valleys with cows grazing contentedly and towering mountains that are more often than not covered with snow. Our stop here was just a couple of days in Innsbruck, a small pretty town next to a blue grey river. The camp site was about 5 kms from town so we got the bikes off the back of Clive and rode in. I have to say it was freezing, even the locals were rugged up! We found our way into the tourist office with the aim of working out how to get up to the Stubai glacier for a day of snowboarding. I couldn't wait, I love snowboarding and this place was meant to have snow all year round, that is until this year. The girl behind the desk unhappily informed us that this year was the first year ever that there wasn't enough snow on the glacier. Global warming, she said, was to blame, but Innsbruck is a very nice place anyway.

She wasn't wrong, with narrow alley ways and olde worlde buildings surrounded by mountains, it was indeed pretty. At the end of the main street was a lovely building with polished copper tiles on its roof. This place used to belong to Maxamillian the guy who was in charge back in the day. He decided that he needed a house that could look out over the main street so he could see what was going on, and so everyone knew he lived there he made his roof gold! I am sure everyone knew he lived there, but these guys sure did like shiny things.

The next day we chilled at the camp site, I think we are starting to get a bit travel fatigued. We met another Talbot van crew, and had a chat to them for most of the day. Turns out the guys were quiet mechanically minded and they had a bit of a tinker on Clive for us. They also had a jar of vegemite spare, and didn't mind parting with it. So in exchange for all the generosity we bought them a few beers (and a few for us too). We had a good chat and laugh, and compared all our Talbot break down stories (this took most of the night... :)
