The drive to Sorrento was meant to be straight forward enough, that was until the sat nav decided to take us down the smallest back streets of the middle of nowhere! It turned out we weren't all that far from Pompeii, and after a nice old Italian had told us we were lost and to turn around, we decided to just head to Pompeii and do the city that day instead. Pompeii was great, everything was so intact with the paintings still on the walls and even roofs on some of the buildings. It really did give you an idea of how people must have lived, from the wine and snack bars to the brothels! It would really be worth doing a tour here though, just to get a better idea of things, we just wondered around getting lost in the myriad of streets.
We did find our way out of Pompeii and on to Sorrento, but driving in Sorrento turned out to be the slowest craziest place in the world to drive
The next day we had planned on going on a scooter ride around the Amalfi coast. This was something I had been looking forward to doing since before London. We had booked the scooter and everything was sorted, until we were woken up by the biggest thunder storm. It was so wet and did not look as if it was going to clear up, so after talking to the camp site guy, we rebooked for the next day, it will be sunny tomorrow, he promised. Instead we went to Paestum to look at some more ruins. These were meant to be the most intact Greek temples in Europe, and we weren't disappointed. No roofs of course but the pillars were still intact and a lot of the decorations
That night it rained, and rained, and rained, and that morning, it rained some more. Well we were only in Sorrento once so we got our scooter put on jackets and off we went, me driving and Dave on the back. The weather didn't turn out too bad in the end, and we only really got soaked just as we were coming back, other than that the rain did its best to stay away. I had a ball, but it was a lot harder driving with someone on the back, hadn't done that before. Dave had a bit of a ride as well, but I wouldn't get on the back with him, hehe. Amalfi was much nicer then Sorrento, and would have made a much better base, well you live you learn. You hear so many great things about this coast, and although it was nice it wasn't the best place we have been. I am sure the weather put a dampener on things, but what can you do about that!
