30/8-4/9
Break down number three; we probably should have been to a mechanic. Well the problem that started in Albania we still hadn't really got around to getting fixed, and obviously over the last few days it had really started getting worse. We had just driven over another mountain range when Clive just stopped, right in front of the local police station! We pushed him off to the side of the road and Dave had a look at what to do. Lucky for us being in a camper means we have two batteries, so being that the batter was our immediate problem, Dave changed them over. A tow truck turned up at this point just as Dave had the engine turning over and he offered to show us where the mechanics was. 4hrs, one new alternator and 175 Euros later we were on our way to Slovenia, again.

Postojna Caves were a bit of fun, and quiet spectacular, but the price was well over what it should have been The Caves

. Never the less the little train trip at the start and end of the cave sight seeing was a bit of fun. The temp inside the caves was quiet cold and we had to have jumpers on. The guide told us that the caves were the second largest in Europe, being 20kms long. The whole tripe took about an hr and a half, and really wasn't a bad way to start the day.

Our next stop was Lake bled, we had heard numerous positive comments about this area, and all we can say is they were right. Lake bled is in one of the most picturesque areas, surrounded by mountains a glassy lake reflects the surrounds, while a castle over looks the valley from its cliff top and a church sits seductively on its own little island in the middle of it all. We spent the day riding around the lake and having a picnic on the banks. The beer also deserves to be mentioned, Union, it is great! If you get the chance take a trip here, you won't regret it.

On the way out of Slovenia we stopped off at Bohinj Lake, it also was lovely, and not quiet as touristy. The drive over to Italy took us over yet another set of mountains, but it was a nice drive, and hardly a car on the road. It was quiet exciting for me getting to Italy, somewhere I have always wanted to go to, and being that Venice was our first stop, I couldn't wait. The Camper stop we wanted to stay at was just a ferry ride away from Venice, but what we didn't know was that you couldn't get in from 8-8. We arrived at 8:15, bugger!

We drove about and found a camp site to sleep at, 30 Euros a night! Welcome to Italy and western European prices. It was a good camp site, it had a couple of bars and we had a beer while watching a Contiki tour sing very bad Karaoke Postojna CAves

. We decided to cut our losses and drive to the camper stop the next night for a much more reasonable 8 Euros, and we got the ferry from there. Venice was all I thought it would be. It really does look like a floating city, with the streets and buildings all just sitting on the water. The streets and buildings were amazing, and San Marco square was amazing. We spent the day poking our heads into churches looking at buildings and eating pizza! After walking around for 5 hrs we were exhausted and got the ferry back to Clive.

We stopped today to replace a tire (the miles must be adding up) and continued onto Ferrara, a tiny little town with a fantastic castle and medieval centre and then continued onto what was meant to be Bologna. Meant to be because we simply could not find a camper stop! All of them seemed to have been closed and we needed to save cash so no camp sites just yet. Instead we drove another few Km out of town and ended up in Savigno, a very small cute little town, and best of all it had free power!
