So now to Bulgaria, I still remembered this place as the country where the children got taken in chitty chtty bang bang. Well I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't really that keen, it was just a country to drive through to get to Turkey. So Dave planned a route through the middle and along the black sea. The boarder crossing was more expensive then we were use to, a 10 euro bridge tax to get over the Danube, then another 10 euro road tax as we entered the country (which we almost drove right past before the man yelled out to us..). We got another two stamps in our passport (yay!) and said thankyou to the man (this time in Bulgarian) which he seemed pleased about (after he had figured out what we were trying to say). All in all it was quick and easy.
Our first stop was the old capital of Bulgaria Veliko Ternovo
The room was clean there were two single beds of decent standard and the view was great! So for 15 euros we took the room for the night. We were right in the centre of town and wandere down stairs for dinner (some nice stews and mushrooms) and a beer which cost us 15 euros and we went to check ou the light show. The town started here around 1bc and a huge fortifided town was set up on a hill on the out skirts near the new city. At night a light and sound show was set up. Once enough tourists had payed it would start. We just sat out near the paying cutomers and watched for free. It was quiet nice with the town being light up in all different colours. The final of the euro cup was on so we watched germany get beat by Spain (and had a beer) before retering for the night.
I have decded I just don't sleep well away from clive
The black sea coast is great, the sea is a fabulose blue and the water is a great temreture, not to cold, but refreshing. We are in a farly dodgy camp site, but it is right on the beach, so we have decided to stay for three nights and just chill out. So far we have both gotten burnt, read a lot and swam a lot, besides eating and drinking we havn't done anything else. It had been fabulose! We even set up the tent out the back (which took us far longer then it should have) and bar the air mattress deflating on the first night, we have slept out in the tent. So we have had a bit of a holiday in a holiday, gearing up for Istanbul.
We had a few drinks with an older Belgium couple who have been everywhere you could imagine. They own a huge truck they have converted into a camper, and by huge i mean huge. We had a few drinks and stayed up talkng till around 2am. They gave us their address, so hopefully we will go back to belgium and they will show us around antwerp.
