Finally we were heading to the beach, and we were looking forward to it. It was an uneventful overnight bus ride to Florianopolis, and the island we were going to stay on. From The town centre we headed to Barra do Lagoa on the other side. It was a cute little beach town, with a few tourist shops and a few local restaurants. Our hostel (backpackers share house) was right on the beach and had surf boards that you could rent for free. Basically we spent a lot of time on the beach surfing a bit and getting a tan, it was just what we needed.
There were lots of nice people staying at the hostel and we spent a few nights drinking the Brazilian cocktail 'caprihinia' made from local sugar cane liquor- Cachasa and sugar limes and ice, very nice but it gives you a good head ache! One night we ended up at a random reggae club, some locals told us it would be great. So we followed them out to the middle of nowhere to pay a huge amount to get in, and watch some guy (who the locals loved) play the 12 bar blues and sing really badly. It ended up being a bit of fun, just random. It was also St. Paddy's day while we were here, so we got on out green clothes and found an Irish pub. Our bus broke down on the way, and didn't want to come pick us up at the end, but all in all it was fun.
