22/2/09-25/2/09
El Chalten was only a 4 hr bus ride away, for a nice change.  The town is tiny and was only founded in the 80's, really it is just hotels for people coming here for climbing and trekking in the national park.  The national park is gorgeous and there are heaps of day treks you can do with out a guide or even a map for that.  We did two walks while we were there, one to see Mt. Fitz Roy and the other to see Cerro Torre.  They were spectacular, the crystal blue water of rivers and lakes, and the green of the trees and every time you saw the fits Roy peaks you had to stop and stare.  Dave and I are not hikers, but this place was amazing and there were many times we were walking we were all alone.  We also got to see wood peckers hammering away at trees.  They were very friendly and didn't seem to mind you getting within a few meters of them.

The hostel we were staying in was ok, nice and small and we whiled away the nights playing Uno with some English and Swiss guys.  The Swiss guys knew some crazy rules so we ended up calling it crazy Swiss Uno (yes I am original) and got drunk on cheap wine and beer.
