Well it was another overnight bus, but this one was for 28hrs! We got to El Calafate via a small part of the famous route 40 but took the route 3 for most of it (this way is much quicker). Well what can I say, El Calafate is another windy cold Patagonian town. The only reason to really come here is for the Perito Moreno Glacier. This glacier is one of the only glaciers left in the world that is not receding. It is 5 Kms wide and at its deepest is 700 meters thick. Basically it is an awesome site.
We spent about 3 hrs walking around the face of the glacier, admiring it from different views. Because the glacier moves about 2 meters a day huge chunks of ice fall from the face into the lake all the time. It is great to just stand there and listen to the glacier creak and crack as it slowly moves and to see the ice break and fall creating huge waves below. Well we are off tomorrow to El Chalten and to try out some more trekking.
