12/2/09-17/2/09

Bariloche is just like a little Switzerland.  The buildings are made from raw timber or rocks, in that chalet style.  We felt like we were in a ski resort.  The bad thing was that it was cold again down here, and  very very windy.  We asked if it would be windy again tomorrow and we were told quiet matter of factley that we were now in Patagonia, it was always windy here.  We also found out that everything was very expensive here, so it looked like we might be keeping quiet for a few days.

The area was very beautiful, forests and lakes everywhere.  We decided to do a bit of a trek for one the days we were here.  We chose Mt. Lopez to climb and were told it was an easy to intermediate trail.  Cool no prob, we had done the Inca trail bring it on.  We took all our things as we wanted to spend the night at the mountain refuge and climb back down the next day.

It ended up being a really good walk, but very steep.  It was all up hill and took us around 3 hrs.  The views from the top were amazing and the refuge was a cool little lodge with and old style country kitchen.  There were only another 4 people staying there the night, so we got to sleep in a 30 bed dorm with only the 4 of us!  We played cards by candle light and enjoyed the amazing stars.  We also saw and amazing flash of bright light, it filled the whole sky making everything go green for around 3 seconds.  When we asked someone what it was they said it had been like a small comet or something.  It was very cool, but we missed most of it.

While here we also spent a day in Villa de Angostura, a cute chocolate box town.  We were going to do a walk around a peninsular, but you had to get a boat back and we found out it was going to cost about 80 pesos, so we instead got a huge fantastic steak and some red wine, not a bad alternative we thought!

Then came the sad bit, we had to say goodbye to Jo and Jozza.  They were heading back up to Buenos Areas and we were heading further down south.  It had been great to travel with them and we were going to miss them.  Hopefully we will be able to all catch up one day again in either Belgium or Australia.
