Where I stayed
mammoth cave national park campground
We walked around and checked out the other tent setups. We saw a lot of nice tents but our setup with the circus tent is much better. AND Bryce Lafoon had the best campfire in the whole campground :)
Later I cooked on the Coleman Grill for the first time. (Thanks again Lorri!) Grilled Pizzas. I burned the bottom a little but Im sure I'll get much better!
Day 2: Cave Tour day!
We woke up very early due to all the kiddos and bathroom traffic that ran right by our tent. I am learning that it is going to be very difficult to sleep past 7 in a tent... but a good thing about that is we have a full day to explore.
Mammoth Cave is the most extensive cave system in the world and stays 54 degrees year round. We decided on a 4 and 1/2 hour, 4 mile cave tour called the Grand Avenue that took us about 200 feet underground. The first half of the tour wasn't very exciting.. we felt like we were on the moon looking at all the limestone rocks around us. After the first hour and 1/2 the tour got a lot better. The pictures turned out really well. But I have to say.. I don't want to be in a cave that long again.
When we got back to our camp site most of the families had cleared out. Our remaining neighbors were very nice. Bryce traded shots of Kentucky Bourbon for Tequila with some good ole Kentucky boys. And I hung out with a couple finishing up a similar 8 week camping trip. They are much more hard core.. 8 weeks.. no hotels.. no restaurants. No thank you. But they gave us a lot of great tips and suggestions for the remainder of our trip.
