Arrived to day on the island, at the airport the man from "Tropicana Resort" was there with his little sign with the names of the guest written on it...funny our names were not on there!!! Never mind we thought this is Vietnam, they have probably forgotten. On arrival at the hotel you could see the mans face drop as we handed in our passports and my copy of the internet booking, the very booking that stated we had made a reservation for 5 nights from the 23rd of december till the 28th. We sat down and had brekkie ( we were up at 4.30am to get the flight) and were extremly patient. No one said anything, no one said we dont have your booking, it was only after an hour or so that I went up the desk and said OK lets have our room now, it was only then that they said they did not have our reservation!!!
I have really got into the SMILE thing in Vietnam and the dont raise your voice thing ( its been quite easy actually!!)This was going to be a challenge, its hard to be angry AND smile ( try it!!) So we argued, they blamed the booking office in Hanoi, I blamed them, (still smiling!) It was there in black and Bloody white, our credit card number, address etc etc and they were still saying we had not made a reservation. They said they had a room for 1 night, not good enough we said, we want 5 nights, thats what we reserved!! To cut a long story short, we gave in and said OK 1 night it is. Off to the room we went..... Oh my god!! no A/c an antiquated fan in the corner the room had not been cleaned, the shower was in/over the toilet ( nice grey suite), minging my dear, minging!!! I was a very brave girl, no tears, no hissy fits, I just got on with it ( honestly!!) We got changed into our beach wear and as we were leaving the room, we met our neighbour, Dirk from Holland. He said he had heard me at recepetion ( I dont think many people didnt) and he too was moving as he did not like the hotel, he was a little cagey about exactly what he didnt like, apart from the obvious. He recommended a brand new hotel five mins walk from were we were, it didnt have a pool and was not on the beach, but the brochure did look very nice! So off we went to find it.
We arrived at a beautiful hotel called Charm, all new, flat screen tvs in the rooms, a bathroom like at home, very "beige" and contemporary and only $30US a night! We bumped into Dirk, and over a latte he told us that there were RATS in the rooms and that the other morning he awoke to find rat droppings next to his face. Thank the lord for Dirk.
Once we had secured our room they drove us back to Ratty Hotel and we packed up and told them we were off! we offered to pay for the mediocre breakfast but if there was an admission to guilt they said it was free!!
One other thing.. we were in a bar last night watching the football ( as you do on holiday) and got talking to a couple from London, Tooting to be exact!!
Happy christmas in frosty London!!!
