The Real Sin-City
Entry 3 of 3 | show all | print this entry |
Well, finally made it to Bagkok, and to the hostel at around 1am. The weather was lovely when I got off the plane, 30 degrees celcius, about 87 fahrenheit, at midnight!!!! Anyway, got to the hostel and talked to Manami until pretty late, luckily she had gotten a room with A/C, although the guest house is super basic. Not sure what we'll make of today because we have to be at the airport around 3 to catch our plane to Koh Samui, the island where we will spend the next couple of days, but I'll report back as soon as I can, and hopefully with pictures.
Later on in the day....
Well, it's after 12 and Maki and I spent the morning visiting some temples, or, as they are known here, Wats. The truth is that the beauty of the temples, and the lavish colors and extreme attention to detail makes them some of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I hope I can post pics soon. The architecture is very lavish, almost like rococo, full of details, colors and scenes, a complete sensory overload . We also got to go to Wat Poh, which is were we saw the famed Reclining Buddha. His tranquil gaze and relaxed attitude really made me feel like I should stop for a moment and reject the haste in which we tend to live our lives, and just enjoy the little things, the details that we tend to overlook, and most importantly to make some time for ourselves. In a world that is increasingly more stressfull and with the sensory overload we receive everyday from the media and other outlets, we need to take time to reflect and take a deep breath, actually take a hundred deep breaths, until we realize that we are the owners of our actions and we are in full control of where we decide to take our lives. We decide our pace and our cadence in life. The Reclining Buddha reminded me of all those things that I liked to do, but now I'm too busy or too poor to do, and inspired me to make the time to enjoy my life.
Bangkok is a city of many surprises, just like all the other Asian cities I've visited, it reminds me of home. The taste of the fruit here is lush and sweet, the streets are alive with color and sound, and I think that is what attracts people like me, tourists, to experience it's crazinnes for ourselves.
