Once at Changi we picked up one suitcase (the other was checked through to Auckland) and put it in the left luggage room, had McD’s for breakfast, then got a cab to Jalan Lim Tai See which was our second neighbourhood in Singapore, we’d heard there were changes around the area – that was an understatement! The old temple was at the T-intersection, but the empty section across the road where they used to put on Chinese opera once a year, and which held an old stone burner for offerings, had been replaced by an extremely large and fancy house. Even the temple itself had a new wing at the back so the neighbourhood must be doing well.
Fifty meters along the road and…………no Promises Garden to be seen
Two doors along from there used to be a big house set back from the road with a big grassy area (I can remember counting about 15 migrant workers weed-eating the lawn one day), and now it’s a brand-new complex of three-storey narrow houses. It was a relief to get to the main road and find the playground and bus stop were still there I can tell you.
It’s all indicative of the huge growth going on in Singapore, property prices have rocketed and there’s so much new development happening. Very interesting.
We went to Orchard Road to get a couple of things in the shops, then took a cab to Brewerkz to meet Justin Chen and his fiancée Rachel Kelly for lunch
Later we picked up the shirts from the tailor, headed back to the airport and easily filled in time until our flight.
Nearly home now.
