The journey from Lisbon, Portugal to Barcelona, Spain involved a train ride to Madrid leaving at 11pm on what felt like a steam engine as it rumbled, shacked and chugged along. It was on this train that i ment my first Canadian in Europe and she had the seat beside me. She was from the Vancouver area and her name was Kirstin. She was doing a program where she volunteered on organic farms and in return was given free accomodations and meals. At first I was interested, but than remembered how much fun i had hanging out with all my hostel buddies back in Lisbon and enjoyed my free time running around the city and thought that MY plan is better than hers. The train travelled through the night and i could not sleep at all, I think the journey was around 8 hours to Madrid and I slept maybe an hour most...I nearly layed in the aisle! Kirstin however had no troubles falling asleep :(.

Finally after staring out the window into the darkness for what seemed like forever the sun began to rise and buildings started zooming by! I was in Madrid, and needed to switch trains. It was here that my Canadian friend and I said our goodbye and wished each other luck as she embarked on here train ride to some Spanish town and I began searching for my train to transfer me to a different station in the city...It was at this next station where I decided to grab a bite and I found a McD inside an ate a NYCrispy...it was tasty!

The next section of track between me and the coast was on a high speed train. I was finally on a train that whispered through the countryside and speed along at speeds up to 300km/hr! (speed was posted on screen). This 3 hour ride was much more comfortable, but sleep was still hard to gather due to light from sun. Once in Barcelona I needed to find a subway train which would take me La Rambla where the keys to my suite would await my arrival. This hostel had been referred to me by two young Aussies back in Lisbon so I figured I would check it out!

I walked into my room to find only 1 bed taken and thought sweet it might be a quiet night! There were 10 beds. Shortly after I met two people, named German (Mexico) and Ana (Brazil). German was my first Mexican on my journey and only so far... he however does not look mexican lol and I told him. Stereotyping? Maybe. German ended up being my first friend and while Ana decided to have a nap he decided to join me on my expedition towards the beach since it was a beautiful sunny day out. Upon return to the hostel I found out there was a complementary supper served until it ran out which I thought was pretty sweet. (breakfast as well). Later on another lad named Dhillion took the bed above me, at first I wasn't sure about this guy... but as I invited him downstairs for a beer i found out quickly that I liked this guy and another friendship had begun. That evening as we had beers in the main room waiting for 1:30am to come along since that is the time when the Staff takes us to one of the local bar where the 15Euro cover is waivered. Prior to leaving I saw someone sitting on the bench alone and decided to ask if she was heading to the bar. This lady later turned out to being another one of the good friends I have made in Barcelona. Her name was Stephanie (Canadian). I figured if shit hit the fan ever she would be my best chance for backup since we have our prairie roots bond.

We partied at a club called the Apollo which was alright.... a little to packed and full of unfamiliar music. For Stephanie this would turn out being a horrible night. I remember seeing a familiar blob of wavy hair and remember it was Stephanie! This excitment was shorted lived because here I learned that someone while she had been dancing Stole here Camera along with a couple of other things right in the dance floor. This was my first close counter with theif on the trip. (Except for whoever took my bungee string off my backpack!%*$) I felt horrible for her because I am constantly thinking about being robbed so I can feel what she must be going through. The night ended when I decided I have had enough and decided to leave. I was on my own and started to walk down the long street that lead me back to our hostel. There were creepies out and about, yet with my increasing bravory and observation that when I moved alone I was not bothered but once I was with a group we would be constantly bothered. One time while decided what flavour of ice cream to get on the street with a couple of new friends which decided my earlier suggest of ice cream was a pretty good idea had an incidence of attempted robbery. As we piered into the ice cream selection a local passing by pushes her aside as if to see the flavours only to be abruptly stopped by Pogo who intercepted this sneaky culprite who was checking the sides of this girls jacket. The would be theif carried along and we ate our ice cream and went back to the hostel. Tom and Pogo were from Canada as well. Nicolas (Argentina) would also join our group from Clan 301.

Had alot of fun here, saw some amazing sights, ate some delicious and some interesting food. Made great friends and completed another Chapter. My next destination was last minute, no plan and gave me my first taste fear...
