Today was one on my to do list, the Australian War Memorial We new it might be a tough one for the kids but we persisted and they were great. There are so many things to see and do in Canberra that it is hard to pick and choose, but the memorial was a given.

The memorial is very popular and is number 1 on a lot of peoples list for Canberra and today was our turn. Unfortunately the First World War exhibit was being redone, but that did not take away from the tour. The stories of the men and women, the places they fought and the things they did are all done in so many different ways, through audio-visual, models, aircraft, medals and memorabilia and so many more. It was both incredibly interesting and moving to see what these people did.

Visiting each of the areas where Australians served, the interactive displays and the tour guide talks, all helped to get an understanding of our history in conflict. There was even a kids discovery area where they got to see what it was like in a submarine during the Cold War, life in the trenches during WWI, life at home helping the war effort in WWII and in a helicopter in Vietnam. We also did some searches for Great Grandad George Edward Jacques and Grandad Alvan Jacques service records.

When people will ask me about my holiday I will recommend to everyone that they should visit the Australian War Memorial.
