Our first stop is in the middle of nowhere, just fields, prairie and the Drakensburg mountains in the distance in an area called Northern Drakensburg.  The room was a big, clean cabin at a good price.  (except for no towels.  The guy at the desk said that no hostels give towels.  But he is also kind of a jerk, so we don't believe him.  We have not found that to be true yet.  And we hope it is not true because all we have is a little pack towel that gets dirty fast!).  We were trapped at our hostel for dinner, because nothing else was around, but we had great vegetarian meals with included an after dinner cocktail.  The bar had a hot tub in it, so we drink our cocktails there.

The first thing we did was rent bikes.  We rode through prairies of tall, dried grass sparsely dotted with exotic bare trees.  We even saw a boy going for a jog, barefoot, down a long dirt rode.  He tried to give us high five as we passed.

We went to Royal Natal National Park in the Drakensburg mountains for great views of the 2nd tallest waterfall (which was dry now) in a rock formation called The Amphitheater.  We hiked some of the trails and saw groups of baboons.  We were scared of them at one point because it looked like they were sprinting right at us, but they ended up jumping into some trees.  We also hiked to some Bush Man paintings.  We got a guide to explain the pictures to us, which was interesting because we would have never figured them out on our own.  The baboons are the Bush-men's friends because they are small like them and they can relate to them.  In recent years, they paint the farmers as tall stick figures who they do not like.  They do not think animals should be owned.
