So this day we flew to Rio.  Very indirectly-thanks to buying the flight with miles.  We went from Rio to Santiago, Chile to Sao Paulo, Brazil to Rio.  We landed in Rio at 2am.  Just the place you want to be at 2am.  Not really knowing what to do we sat and slept in the airport until 6am.  At 6am we took a bus to Copacabana-with no hostel reservation of course.  So we checked a couple places and they were full.  So we just booked a cheap hotel on line.  We showed up at the hotel at 10am and slept in the lobby until noon when our room was ready.  I am sure they really appreciated that!

We were really tired from not getting sleep for days (overnight bus and then overnight flight), so that night we took it easy.  We went to a Rio "institution" called Cervantes.  They are known for their filet mignon, chedder cheese, and pineapple sandwiches.  We knew it had to be our first stop!  We waited outside in a line with the locals and it was worth it!  The sandwiches were excellent.  highly recommended ;)
