A long day on the road, popping in an out of the various bays along the west side of the Eyre Peninsula. We both agree the eastern side has more to offer in terms of landscape, and if you came here without a boat, you would have very limited holiday options once you had filled your face with the oysters. Streaky Bay was OK, a little bit like a mini Cowes, and Elliston was a quaint little town with an amazing coast line, but otherwise, we think Coffin Bay really is the pick of the crop down here. You could mellow out for quite a while in "Coffins" and not feel guilty about not bothering with the rest of the peninsula.

The Easter break is pending, and the locals are heading for the coastal towns, so the main Ceduna caravan parks were full to the brim. This turned out to be a bonus, as we had to go back to the “airport caravan park”, which we had snubbed earlier, and it turned out to be an absolute pearler. Not for anyone who's looking for stars and ratings, mind you. I was looking for peace and quiet, grass underfoot and some power. Clean showers (albeit very dark ones, as the lights are on timers and the weather was feral) and toilets complete my list, so this place ticked all the boxes for a restful night’s sleep. And, as much as we had loved Coffin Bay and we both like children on a good day, it was absolute heaven to be back with some really ancient grey nomads and die-hard home-made-bus-dwellers who are all on their way somewhere – they just can’t tell you when or where. No squeals, no dramas, just polite small talk in your jarmies on the way to the ablutions block – or a friendly wave, if that’s all you feel up to. Apart from the odd light plane on dusk, the airport turned out to be much more restful than you’d expect, too.
