We arrived in Shenzhen last night at about 11:30pm. By the time we collected our bags it was midnight. We've got to try and start arriving at our destinations during the day... but these inconvenient flights are just so cheap!
There doesn't appear to be a whole lot to do in Shenzhen. It's a large city but it seems that it's mainly full of businesses and factorys. It was nice to arrive at a really clean hostel although the hostel has lights out at midnight and doesn't allow alcohol on the premises! We left our hostel this morning (without taking advantage of the free breakfast because they only serve it from 7:30am - 9:30am - too early for our buggered and battered bodies) and stumbled upon the subway so we headed to the city centre. Whilst we were there we thought we'd try and discover how to get to Hong Kong (just accross the border). After lots of body gestures and the word "Hong Kong" being thrown in we think we know how to get there (No one speaks English here).
I like China already. It doesn't have a significant western tourist presence from what I can see or hear so the culture isn't watered down to be tourist friendly. Tam and I went to our first Chinese public toilets today too! I think the guys smoking in there helped cloud the smell of my toilet. We're going to get up early tomorrow and head back to the town centre and head to Hong Kong (only 50min by train). There we'll hopefully meet up with a couple of guys Kym used to work with and share some drinks. More thumbnails ...
